Sri Oommen Chandy is the 19th Chief Minister of Kerala. He has served as the State Minister for Labour from 11.4.1977 to 27.10.1978; Minister for Home from 28.12.1981 to 17.3.1982; Minister for Finance from 2.7.1991 to 22.6.1994. He has been elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1970, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1996 and 2001 (from Puthupally constituency). He has visited a number of countries like USA, USSR, UK, Germany, Rome, Austria, Netherlands, Switzerland, Kuwait, UAE, Doha and Maldives. He was born at Kumarakom in Kottayam on October 31, 1943.

Literally, a man of the masses, Oommen Chandy cannot think of staying away from the public. He likes to be with the masses in their crisis and happiness, and finds satisfaction in solving their problems and feels dejected when some regulations thwart him from helping the needy.

With a passion for public service inherent in him, Oommen Chandy’s association with the masses began at a very early stage of his career. Born on 31st October 1943 in Kumarakom, as son of Karottu-Vallakkalil K.O Chandy and Baby Chandy, he exhibited empathy for the ailing common man, even from his childhood.

A staunch proponent of Indian National Congress and its ideology, Chandy ventured into the political arena as an activist of Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student wing of the party. He was the unit president of KSU at St George High School, Puthupally, and went on to become the State President of the organization. For a short period he was also the President of All Kerala Balajana Sakhyam. He completed his college education from CMS College, Kottayam, SB College, Changanassery and Government Law College, Ernakulam. These campuses not only bestowed knowledge, but also moulded the career of a mass leader, Oommen Chandy.

His entry into the main stream Congress politics was through Youth Congress in which he served as the President at the state level. At the National level, he served the party as member of the AICC. He also associated with several trade unions, affiliated with INTUC, and has led several mass movements addressing causes concerning the commoner. He was elected to Kerala legislative Assembly for the first time from Puthupally constituency in 1970, and since then he never looked back. The impeccable track record of winning 8 times continuously from the constituency is an eloquent testimony of his popularity and public acceptance.

His simple life style, immaculate track record and above all his compassionate behavior earns him a unique position in the minds of each and every Keralite.

Is history about to repeat itself? Will the upcoming Israeli elections manage to escape from the clutches of Shimon Peres' again? Can lightning strike twice? Remember, Shimon Peres incredibly lost the race to become the leader of the Labor Party to Amir Peretz due, in large part, to growing concerns and legitimate questions about his involvement in the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin and the subsequent government cover-up. As duly noted by Reuven A. Kossover at Blog Critics and at Jewish Indiana…

Dear Bush,I must first of all apologize for not including my address on this letter. In this age of terrorism, one should be wary of disclosing private addresses in public places. So I decided to send you this mail from 'an undisclosed secret location.' The purpose of my writing you, however, is to congratulate you for your 'decisive' victory in the November election. You must see what I am doing this moment—playing my ukulele in my garden and singing 'God Bless America.' Do you know how …
