And who ruffled my feathers? My state legislators did when they voted in favor of a bill costing $3m to produce curriculum materials for our public schools. So what’s wrong with that?

All members of the legislature, both republicans and democrats, voted in favor…with the exception of a single republican senator who felt that it was none of their business. He is right. Their job is to finance public education not to produce curriculum materials.

How could this have happened at a time when over 6% of our labor force is unemployed and we are in a severe and prolonged economic down-turn? There are several possibilities:
·The media failed to keep us informed.
·No organization protested (PTA, School Boards,
Teachers, parents etc. etc.
· The bill was proposed by a member of a politically potent ethic minority and, in the present climate of multiculturalism and ethnic diversity of course {“whitey” would grovel and vote for a bill clearly against their best interest as well as the interests of the students

This is just one more example of the failure of what we laughingly call DEMOCRACY. Democracy is like a wheelbarrow, you know. It doesn’t work unless you get behind it and apply some effort. Fail to do this and you forfeit your bitching and whining rights.

1. PALS in Pakistan Part Two – Pakistan's Nuclear Arsenal By Teve Torbes
Pakistan’s current nuclear security situation is uncertain. While the weapons are in secure storage areas for the present, their safety in a scenario in which Musharraf’s government crumbled would be at risk (Mufson). Even assuming Musharraf retains power, the potential for theft of one of their weapons is not far-fetched. A significant portion of the nuclear scientists employed in Pakistan’s nuclear program is believed to be Islamic fundamentalists who had maintained strong ties with the Tali…

2. Karen Hughes---and My Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism
Karen had just herded the kids into the back seat of that elephant sized black Lexus SUV they have when I caught her on her cell. As usual, she had the Waylon Jennings pumped up to drown out the sound of little Georgie Joe and Condi Sue screaming in the back. Waylon was singing: She's a good hearted woman In love with a good timing man. She loves him in spite of The wicked things that she don’t understand She clicked in with “This is Karen” and I just couldn’t help myself. I had to yell. Real…

3. Mexican Trucks in the United States; NAFTA Trade and Problems By Lance Winslow
Expected new applications for Mexican trucks to enter the US to be over 9000 in 2005. Most of these newer applications will be to take freight to Port Los Angeles for shipping to Asian markets, and importing parts to be assembled and shipped to Mexico and later sold in the US. Many see a little bit of a problem with imported freight in LA stopping on its way to Mexico and unloaded somewhere without permits.Dirty Mexican trucks will have that clay dirt on them and potentially noxious and non-…

4. OK! Now I Am Ready To Close Gitmo!
A friend of mine and I were talking about the horrible claims of abuse by our soldiers in the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Gitmo has been the source of many complaints over the way we have been treating those captured waging a war against the United States. And as my friend and I discussed the abuse of our “guests” we realized that we were only willing to support certain things in the name of preserving liberty. We could ignore the complaints about the prisoners being required to stay in stres…
