The United States is prepared for Natural Disasters on a large scale. We have survived some of the largest. We have weathered Hurricanes, Tornadoes and long-term droughts with crop failures, which have also brought huge wildfires. The Western United States has been hit with some of the largest and most devastating Earthquakes in the present period and modern era.

Recently we have seen other nations were also hit, in fact few nations have been spared from disasters of large magnitude. The FEMA plan of preparedness was recently attacked after Hurricane Katrina, but within a month they got it right with Rita as she ripped the already ravaged Gulf Coast. Once we get the plan perfected, we need to export this knowledge like a Franchise Restaurant with training and manuals of what to do and how to cut down the number of deaths.

We saw the unprepared example of the Indonesia Earthquake as those by the beach were not warned of the Tsunami, they could have been spared, or most of them. 200,000 or more perished. Then we see flooding in Guatemala and Mexico due to the remnants of Hurricane Stan 2500 people died. Then the Earthquake in Pakistan another 30,000 soles lost to Mother Nature. We need a plan, we need it now, no matter where you are or what region you live.

A scholar and IT professional in Portugal declared that: “Indeed. The awareness of people and countries to these things are important. Most of the Central American Countries just don't have the planning and infrastructure need to withstand these things.” He also further went on to say that even in his Country of Portugal; “. . . most of our housing is believed to be resistant the such phenomena, however people aren't ready to prepare themselves for such an event. For the lack of awareness I believe a Cat. 1 hurricane could wreak havoc here in Portugal.”

And perhaps it would, as it would in many nations, first world nations as well as third world nations. When was the last time you had a major Earthquake or Weather event. Our friend in Portugal admits; “We've had a great earthquake in 1755, most of the country was down to rubble, and we mention it frequently, but we just don't take it seriously...” And then our friend asks the question and makes the statement: “. . .Some people think the story behind "The Day After Tomorrow" is far fetched... I think is closer to what anyone might think. . .”

What do you think? Are we looking at another three decades of Super Storms, another three decades of record breaking Hurricane Seasons and possibly rising of sea level washing away coastal cities and civilizations? What do you think; some people are starting ask a lot of questions these days? What do you fear; the weather? Are you and your family ready, does your country have a plan in place or are you throwing your lives and caution to the wind, again? Think about it.

1. Dissing the Deputy's Dubai Junket
Okay, so the subject of South African deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka's junket with buddies to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been written about ad nauseam. It's one of those issues which just begs the hideous polarisation of which we South Africans of all hues are so regularly capable. The racist agendas creep out from under their stones and start gnawing away - again - at the fabric of our staged unity. The rainbow nation vaunted by my 'fave' archbishop - ye Very Reverend, His Grac…

Under the current system, automakers must maintain an average of 21.6 miles per gallon for their 2006 model year …

4. John Edwards and Trial Lawyers Are Licking Their Chops with New Orleans By Lance Winslow
