Have you ever entered a negotiation when the other party works very hard to find common ground? Have you ever noticed once they find what they perceive to be common ground that they use this to develop friendship and report, only to try to manipulate that found friendship for their own personal gain. Often in negotiation, that gain is your loss. Did you know there are really easy ways to screw with their minds when they attempt this fake friendly gesture trickery to take advantage of your? One way is to ask them are they trying to find common ground? If they say yes, then say; “May I ask in a nice way; What is with you and this ‘common ground’ thing?” Tell them that in fact you do not like people like you only people who are different than you, those who disagree with your perceptions. This will throw them for a loop and take away their strategy. This especially works good with people of foreign backgrounds, it totally puts them off guard for the negotiations. And you should do this, as it is their intentions to play games with your mind and manipulate you to their ends. Tell them; “Why would you want to be around those who think exactly like you?” and ask them point blank; “Why do you need common ground?” Tell them this is not a negotiation, there is nothing to negotiate. Either I get my way or, I become your friend. By this time you will have them so screwed up in the head that they will agree to stop their nuclear weapons programs and then we can all be friends.
