I'd like to personally thank a number of people for the screwed up mess the country is in today.
First of all, I'd like to thank President Bush, who pursued a war while ignoring intelligence that contradicted his beliefs, resulting in the very quagmire I predicted months ago.
Next, I'd like to thank his lunatic defense secretary, who continues to downplay the insurgent attacks against American troops as merely the handiwork of bandits and supporters of Saddam. His ability to deny truth that's as plain as the nose on my face is truly remarkable.
Next, I'd like to thank the Democrat Party, most of who meekly went along with Bush, failed in their responsibility to the American people to debate an issue as important as this, and even today don't have the guts to admit maybe they were wrong.
I'd like to thank the gutless newspaper editors and directors of major media for their yellow streak in refusing to ask tough questions lest they be called 'unpatriotic,' and who were swayed in their handling of this mess merely by money, ratings and the corporate status quo.
I'd like to thank the head Dixie Chick, who as her name implies, like newspaper editors did, turned chicken when her career (and money) were threatened, and instead of having the gumption to stand up for her rights to the flag waving zealots and becoming a heroic figure (like actor John Garfield during the McCarthy witch hunts), succumbed to black list pressure.
I'd like to thank Vice President Dick Cheney, whose former company took the rebuilding job for Iraq with no competing bids from other companies, who's never served in the military, and who's never failed once to profit from the misfortune of others.
I'd like to thank Colin Powell, who subverted the good inside himself after getting on Bush's bad side trying to counsel moderation and collective security, for giving up, becoming a stooge mouthpiece of Bush----to preserve his job.
I'd like to thank the extreme right wing for their 'my-country-right-or-wrong' mentality, for denying others the right to disagree (without being labeled subversive or a supporter of Saddam), for equating war in much the same manner as a tailgate party at a football game.
I'd like to thank all the excuse makers, who came up with a continuing array of whoppers as the evidence mounted on weapons, from 'we'll find them,' to 'they'll turn up,' to 'we'll show weapons' systems,' to 'the weapons were shipped to Syria just before the war started,' to whatever next week's is.
I'd like to thank those clueless Americans who watch reality TV, but still think Iraq used weapons of mass destruction in the war, and that such weapons have already been found, and who continue to believe the government's lie that Baghdad was behind the 9-11 attacks in New York.
I'd like to thank those people who believe the United States is the only country in the world that matters, and that the French are hateful because they disagreed (ironically the Germans, also against the war, escaped such criticism. Nobody has recommended we rename German measles as we did with French fries).
I'd especially like to thank all the Americans who simply waved aside any nagging questions or doubt, and said, 'I don't care.'
You're what this war and the corporate rape of America is all about.

Cities, counties and states across America are struggling to close budget gaps - some of which are significant. Most often we hear about extreme cases like California, which will have to find nearly... [Author: Sean Carpenter - Politics and Government - March 28, 2011]
